Halloween Oreo Cupcakes
Halloween, a holiday highly anticipated by millions around the world, has a rich and fascinating history. Its roots can be traced back more than 2,000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain. Celebrated on October 31st, Samhain marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter. It was believed that on this night, the boundary between the living and the dead was blurred, allowing spirits and ghosts to roam the earth. To ward off these restless souls, the Celts would light bonfires and wear costumes, a tradition that evolved into our modern-day practice of dressing up and carving pumpkins.
With the arrival of Christianity, Samhain merged with All Hallows' Eve, the night before All Saints' Day, which is celebrated on November 1st. Over time, Halloween transformed into a community-centered holiday, filled with ghost stories, apple bobbing, and trick-or-treating. And today, Halloween is a delightful blend of ancient traditions and modern festivities, captivating young and old alike.
And what else to serve at a spookiest party of the year than a devilish delight that combines the best of both worlds - the classic goodness of Oreo cookies and the irresistible allure of moist cupcakes?

Separate shells from the cream of 40 Oreos, or 450g.
Crush the Oreo shells and combine them with flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda, and a pinch of salt.
Separately mix room temperature butter with a hand mixer until creamy, then add sugar and mix for 2 minutes.
Now add oil, milk, vinegar, 2 eggs and vanilla extract into the butter and mix until incorporated.
Add the dry ingredients into the batter, and mix until just combined. Then mix in 65 ml of hot water.
Divide the batter between muffin moulds and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C/356°F for 30 minutes or until the toothpick comes out clean. Let them cool down, then scoop out the centers, leaving the crumbs for later.
Beat the cream from the Oreos with cream cheese and whipping cream until stiff peaks, then fill the centers and add back the crumbs on top to close them.
Beat the room temperature butter for the frosting until creamy, then add cream cheese and whipping cream and beat for a minute. Gradually add the icing sugar and crushed Oreos, and mix until well combined.
For grey colour add just a bit of black food colouring while mixing.
Now transfer the frosting into a piping bag and pipe out the cream onto the muffins.
