Steak Flatbread

History of bread reaches back more than 30,000 years. The first bread was made from roasted cereal grains and water, and this still has a legacy in many parts of the world, where similar items are still made today. In Mexico, tortillas are descendants of this flatbread; as is Indian chapatti, naan, and roti; same with Armenian lavishes; and Iranian sangaks and taboons; and Scottish oatcakes; also North American johnnycake. As you can see, flatbread is still prevalent in many varieties across the world.

There are so many types of flatbreads to choose from, but most popular in Italy is the Italian Piadina, or Italian flatbread, so I used this delicious option.

Piadina or piada is a thin Italian flatbread, typically prepared in the Romagna historical region. It is usually made with white flour, lard or olive oil, salt and water.

This bread dates back to the Etruscan period and was considered a food of peasants and farmers until the mid-1900s, when it grew in popularity as a street food among tourists. It eventually became so popular throughout Italy that it was even sent to the International Space Station in 2004 as part of a Mediterranean diet experiment.

Flatbreads are so delicious and versatile that you can try them with different flour varieties and serve with either savory or sweet fillings, but this time I decided to go for a lunch option and fill it with steak and my top go-to ingredients!

I definitely recommend making your own flatbread, but store-bought will do the trick if you’re not experienced in kneading dough or just simply have no time.

Heat up butter in a pan and add sliced onions, garlic and rosemary. Saute for 5 minutes, then add in the steak.

Season the steak with salt and pepper and cook for a few minutes on each side until you get the level of your desired steak.

Leave the steak to cool for 5 minutes, then cut into slices.

Heat up the flatbread on a hot pan for a minute on each side, then spread tartar sauce, add sweetcorn, lettuce and of course, the steak.

Wrap the flatbread and take a big bite!
