Banana Chocolate Chip Squares

The combination of bananas and chocolate has roots that stretch back through centuries and across continents. Bananas, originally cultivated in Southeast Asia, made their way across the globe via trade routes and became a beloved fruit in various cultures. Chocolate's story though begins in ancient Mesoamerica, where the Mayans and Aztecs used cacao beans to create ceremonial drinks and dishes. It wasn't until the global trade expansions of the 19th century that both bananas and chocolate became widely available in Western countries.

Soon after, the combination of bananas and chocolate began appearing in recipes, quickly becoming a favourite. This pairing led to creations like chocolate-covered bananas and banana chocolate chip muffins, and remains a classic in modern cuisine.

Bananas provide a creamy texture and mild sweetness, while dark chocolate offers a rich, slightly bitter flavour. This contrast creates a delightful balance that has enchanted dessert lovers around the globe, showcasing the beauty of complementary flavours in perfect unity.
